Zane Binder
Starting as a mechanic in the late '60's fresh from a stint in Army Intelligence this writer began wrench work on drag cars. He eventually graduated to NHRA World Points Competition ... till he ran out of money. Over the next decade he wrote three automotive books for Chilton of Radnor, Pa., under contract and was eventually employed by the Press of Atlantic City as a reporter. Besides general duties he started an auto test column, an honest one over which the manufacturers had no influence. When he left the paper to work for Subaru as a PR man he took his car column along. Even when called for Desert Storm he kept his column current. His flick reviews and a computer column were also kept alive by King Features Syndicate (Hearst Newspapers). Many years later when his employer changed management and insisted he write to please advertisers he jumped to DBR Media, another newspaper syndicate. Now he writes exclusively for Suite 101 on a variety of topics. With expertise in medicine, finance and bankruptcy, energy and conservation, politics and more he considers himself flexible.
